DOMINION AND “THE GOOD AND FAITHFUL”

DOMINION AND “THE GOOD AND FAITHFUL”

DOMINION GIVEN TO THOSE WHO ADD VALUE.

Matt 25:14-30

14"For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them.

15"And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on a journey.

16"Then he who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and made another five talents.

17"And likewise he who had received two gained two more also.

18"But he who had received one went and dug in the ground, and hid his lord's money.

19"After a long time the lord of those servants came and settled accounts with them.

20"So he who had received five talents came and brought five other talents, saying, 'Lord, you delivered to me five talents; look, I have gained five more talents besides them.'

21"His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.'

22"He also who had received two talents came and said, 'Lord, you delivered to me two talents; look, I have gained two more talents besides them.'

23"His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.'

24"Then he who had received the one talent came and said, 'Lord, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed.

25'And I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the ground. Look, there you have what is yours.'

26"But his lord answered and said to him, 'You wicked and lazy servant, you knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed.

27'So you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received back my own with interest.

28'Therefore take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents.

29'For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away.

30'And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'(NKJ)

The kingdom of God is a present reality.

Dominion is a present reality that is entered in through keys.

The servant with one talent shifted to outer darkness (loss of dominion):

    • he was not good
    • he was not faithful
    • he was wicked
    • he was lazy
    • he was unprofitable

29'For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away.

The context of dominion is that without the keys the rich become richer and the poor become poorer.

The one with 5 talents obtained 5 more. The one with 2 talents obtained 2 more.

Both of them were given dominion. They shifted from servants to rulers.

Their dominion was earned.

They were given dominion because they were good and faithful.

21"His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.'

Good – agathos – means useful, benefit, profitable

Faithful - reliable

Thus dominion is the result of 2 important characteristics:

1. Usefulness, profitability – the lazy servant was called unprofitable.

2.  reliability

They were all servants. So being a servant is not a key.

PROFITABILITY(usefulness) AND DOMINION

1. If you are profitable at work, you will quickly rise to dominion. Even affirmative action will not affect you.

JOSEPH WAS USEFUL IN POTIPHAR’S HOUSE.

Gen 39:2-6

2The LORD was with Joseph, and he was a successful man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.

3And his master saw that the LORD was with him and that the LORD made all he did to prosper in his hand.

4So Joseph found favor in his sight, and served him. Then he made him overseer of his house, and all that he had he put under his authority.

5So it was, from the time that he had made him overseer of his house and all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake; and the blessing of the LORD was on all that he had in the house and in the field.

6So he left all that he had in Joseph's hand, and he did not know what he had except for the bread which he ate. And Joseph was handsome in form and appearance.(NKJ)

JOSEPH WAS USEFUL IN PRISON.

Gen 39:20-23

20Then Joseph's master took him and put him into the prison, a place where the king's prisoners were confined. And he was there in the prison.

21But the LORD was with Joseph and showed him mercy, and He gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison.

22And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph's hand all the prisoners who were in the prison; whatever they did there, it was his doing.

23The keeper of the prison did not look into anything that was under Joseph's authority, because the LORD was with him; and whateverhe did, the LORD made it prosper.(NKJ)

JOSEPH’S PROFITABILITY ELEVATED HIM TO DOMINION IN EGYPT.

Gen 41:38-44

38And Pharaoh said to his servants, "Can we find such a one as this, a man in whom is the Spirit of God?"

39Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, "Inasmuch as God has shown you all this, there is no one as discerning and wise as you.

40"You shall be over my house, and all my people shall be ruled according to your word; only in regard to the throne will I be greater than you."

41And Pharaoh said to Joseph, "See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt."

42Then Pharaoh took his signet ring off his hand and put it on Joseph's hand; and he clothed him in garments of fine linen and put a gold chain around his neck.

43And he had him ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried out before him, "Bow the knee!" So he set him over all the land of Egypt.

44Pharaoh also said to Joseph, "I am Pharaoh, and without your consent no man may lift his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt."(NKJ)

  • bow the knee to Joseph
  • over all the land of Egypt

ARE YOU BRINGING IN THE INCREASE?

IF YOU ARE ADDING VALUE TO THE COMPANY YOU WILL SOON COME INTO DOMINION.

JOSEPH’S VALUE WAS HIS GIFT THAT HE FREELY EXERCISED FOR THE BENEFITS OF OTHERS. HE NEVER STOPPED USING HIS GIFT – DESPITE HIS PAST BAD EXPERIENCES.

ARE YOU ADDING VALUE TO THE COMPANY YOU ARE WORKING FOR. ARE YOU DISPENSABLE?

GOD’S PRESENCE IN YOU WILL MAKE YOU USEFUL.

IF YOU ARE NOT ADDING VALUE, YOUR EMPLOYER WILL NOT LISTEN TO YOU- YOU WILL HAVE NO CREDIBILITY.

SALT ADDS VALUE – WE ARE SALT. WE ADD VALUE WHEREVER WE GO.

  • DAVID WAS REGARDED AS AN INDISPENSABLE ASSET.

2 Sam 21:17

But Abishai the son of Zeruiah came to his aid, and struck the Philistine and killed him. Then the men of David swore to him, saying, "You shall go out no more with us to battle, lest you quench the lamp of Israel."(NKJ)

2 Sam 18:2-3

2Then David sent out one third of the people under the hand of Joab, one third under the hand of Abishai the son of Zeruiah, Joab's brother, and one third under the hand of Ittai the Gittite. And the king said to the people, "I also will surely go out with you myself."

3But the people answered, "You shall not go out! For if we flee away, they will not care about us; nor if half of us die, will they care about us. But you are worth ten thousand of us now. For you are now more help to us in the city." (NKJ)

  • JEPHTHAH

Judg 11:3-11

3Then Jephthah fled from his brothers and dwelt in the land of Tob; and worthless men banded together with Jephthah and went out raiding with him.

4It came to pass after a time that the people of Ammon made war against Israel.

5And so it was, when the people of Ammon made war against Israel, that the elders of Gilead went to get Jephthah from the land of Tob.

6Then they said to Jephthah, "Come and be our commander, that we may fight against the people of Ammon."

7So Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, "Did you not hate me, and expel me from my father's house? Why have you come to me now when you are in distress?"

8And the elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, "That is why we have turned again to you now, that you may go with us and fight against the people of Ammon, and be our head over all the inhabitants of Gilead."

9So Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, "If you take me back home to fight against the people of Ammon, and the LORD delivers them to me, shall I be your head?"

10And the elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, "The LORD will be a witness between us, if we do not do according to your words."

11Then Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and commander over them; and Jephthah spoke all his words before the LORD in Mizpah.(NKJ)

  • DEBORAH WAS VALUABLE TO BARAK

Judg 4:6-9

6Then she sent and called for Barak the son of Abinoam from Kedesh in Naphtali, and said to him, "Has not the LORD God of Israel commanded, 'Go and deploy troops at Mount Tabor; take with you ten thousand men of the sons of Naphtali and of the sons of Zebulun;

7'and against you I will deploy Sisera, the commander of Jabin's army, with his chariots and his multitude at the River Kishon; and I will deliver him into your hand'?"

8And Barak said to her, "If you will go with me, then I will go; but if you will not go with me, I will not go!"

9So she said, "I will surely go with you; nevertheless there will be no glory for you in the journey you are taking, for the LORD will sell Sisera into the hand of a woman." Then Deborah arose and went with Barak to Kedesh.(NKJ)

YOUR BOSS SAYS HE WILL ONLY GO ON THE VENTURE IF YOU GO WITH HIM.

  • LABAN RECOGNIZED JACOB’S VALUE

Gen 30:26-30

26"Give me my wives and my children for whom I have served you, and let me go; for you know my service which I have done for you."

27And Laban said to him, "Please stay, if I have found favor in your eyes, for I have learned by experience that the LORD has blessed me for your sake."

28Then he said, "Name me your wages, and I will give it."

29So Jacob said to him, "You know how I have served you and how your livestock has been with me.

30"For what you had before I came was little, and it is now increased to a great amount; the LORD has blessed you since my coming. And now, when shall I also provide for my own house?"(NKJ)

  • TABITHA ARISE

Acts 9:36-43

36At Joppa there was a certain disciple named Tabitha, which is translated Dorcas. This woman was full of good works and charitable deeds which she did.

37But it happened in those days that she became sick and died. When they had washed her, they laid her in an upper room.

38And since Lydda was near Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent two men to him, imploring him not to delay in coming to them.

39Then Peter arose and went with them. When he had come, they brought him to the upper room. And all the widows stood by him weeping, showing the tunics and garments which Dorcas had made while she was with them.

40But Peter put them all out, and knelt down and prayed. And turning to the body he said, "Tabitha, arise." And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter she sat up.

41Then he gave her his hand and lifted her up; and when he had called the saints and widows, he presented her alive.

42And it became known throughout all Joppa, and many believed on the Lord.

43So it was that he stayed many days in Joppa with Simon, a tanner.(NKJ)

The value that she added was a major factor in her resurrection. Some folk add no value. Their resurrection would be detrimental to the church.

  • THE CENTURION

Luke 7:2-6

2And a certain centurion's servant, who was dear to him, was sick and ready to die.

3So when he heard about Jesus, he sent elders of the Jews to Him, pleading with Him to come and heal his servant.

4And when they came to Jesus, they begged Him earnestly, saying that the one for whom He should do this was deserving,

5"for he loves our nation, and has built us a synagogue."

6Then Jesus went with them. And when He was already not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to Him, saying to Him, "Lord, do not trouble Yourself, for I am not worthy that You should enter under my roof.(NKJ)
